The intent in this build was to end up with a car that looks as close to original as possible while maintaining top quality status and reliability. In other words, this car was built to drive, but is still just about as nice a driver as you can get, with plenty of power under the hood. Furthermore, this car has just 63,129 ORIGINAL DOCUMENTED MILES as well, with just 2,000 miles since a complete performance rebuild of the engine. Although it is now by far the most popular color for a new Corvette, believe it or not, Black was the least popular color from 1964 until it was discontinued for the 1970 model year. Originally assembled on June 22, 1966, this car wears older paint in fair condition. Front chrome bumpers have been replaced or rechromed, and are in very nice condition; although the rears might have also been replaced or rechromed, they show a little more waviness than the fronts, and are in good condition. All glass in this car shows a correct date code, including the driver side mirror, which also sports a brand new base. Emblems are newer and in very good condition. Weatherstripping is older, but is mostly intact and in good condition; taillights are in fair condition, showing typical cracking. Original chrome door handles are in good condition with minimal pitting. This car wears correct original 1966 hubcaps in good condition with minor pitting. Tires are Coker Classic redline radials showing 4/32nds tread remaining. Sidepipes have been added to make sure that you're heard even if you're not seen in this stealthy classic. The interior of this 1966 Corvette is particularly nice, showing excellent new leather seat covers with RARE headrest seats, and also a very nice center console. According to the owner, the door panels in this car are original, and are in very good to excellent condition, as are the seatbacks. This car features an original teakwood steering wheel, which is in very nice condition, as it has been recently refurbished. This wheel is mounted to a very rare telescopic steering column. Correct loop carpet is in very nice condition, and reconditioned dated correct GM seatbelts, with excellent original buckles, hardware, retractors and pockets are in place as well. All interior chrome trim and hardware has been rechromed, which really sets this interior off nicely. Gauges show no fading and clear lenses, and the clock is working with a quartz movement. Correct original inside mirror has been fully reconditioned, and is in very nice condition. Dash pads are in very good condition, and the glovebox lid is a correct original part and in good condition as well. Original AM/FM radio is still in place. The numbers matching engine in this 1966 Corvette shows casting date June 10, 1966, and final assembly date June 14, 1966. This engine was just rebuilt to approximatey 385hp, which was achieved by a .030 overbore, full balancing and blueprinting, reworking of the heads with oversized valves, high performance roller camshaft with roller rockers, H-beam rods, new high-compression pistons, high pressure oil pump, and much more. This engine was rebuilt by a very well known local builder at a tune of $8,000. Although this engine would easily push well over 400hp with a carburetor and intake manifold upgrade, the owner insisted on keeping the correct parts to maintain a completely stock appearance. The owner has already begun his meticulous maintenance of this engine, as the oil has already been changed three times since the rebuild 2,000 miles ago. Transmission shows correct date code and VIN stamping. Rear-end and suspension have been rebuilt, and a new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing have been installed along with the original resurfaced flywheel. Correct ignition shielding, hoses and clamps, alternator, exhaust manifolds, and intake manifold are all present as well, as is the original air cleaner base. Unlike most cars from this vintage that have reproduction air cleaner lids, this air cleaner lid is original, and has been rechromed and re-silkscreened on its underside. Correctly numbered and date coded Holley carburetor is in place as well. New battery, correct battery cables, and radiator hoses were installed in October 2009, and a full tuneup including cap, rotor, capacitor, plugs, and plug wires was was done in April 2010. A new GM gas tank and sending unit have also been installed. Engine compartment is clean and detailed, and the frame is solid, clean, and rust and corrosion-free as well. This black beauty represents the best of both worlds, as it is mechanically sound and very strong, yet looks completely stock and can be driven without fear of rock chips and scratches.
